The origin of the Steinbock in Hinterthal goes back to the 60s. While the Beatles were conquering the world, the Steinbock Stüberl in Hinterthal was the meeting place for locals and guests alike.
Thomas Heigenhauser’s parents ran the cosy “Stüberl” until 2004, when Thomas and his wife Laura converted it into the Landhaus zum Steinbock. The two have always been hosts with passion and heart.
In 2010 the time had come. The Steinbock Alm near Maria Alm / Hinterthal was ceremoniously opened and set a new standard in refined mountain gastronomy. In no time at all, the Steinbock Alm became the meeting place for lovers of refined cuisine on the mountain, in winter as well as in summer.
It is the small attentions, the attention to detail, the down-to-earthness and honesty that have distinguished Laura and Thomas and their long-standing team at the Steinbock Alm from the very beginning. Consistent quality from the kitchen and wine cellar, mixed with charming, modern service – this is what the Steinbock Alm is known for beyond the borders of Pinzgau.
In terms of architecture, the Steinbock Alm has set a long-lasting, timeless trend – traditional old wood elements in the “Stuben” meet modern, light-flooded rooms. And when you stand high up on the 360-degree panorama terrace, with an impressive view of the Hochkönig, you realize why the Steinbock Alm is known as the prime location in the Hochkönig area.
